The Wizarding World of Harry Potter
Thinking of visiting Universal Studios Hollywood? The Wizarding World of Harry Potter area is loads of fun for all ages! Read on for our guide to getting the most out of your visit.
The Wizarding World of Harry Potter features an array of shops, stalls, rides, and actors to give you the full Harry Potter experience. From Ollivander’s to The Hogwarts Express, the area is packed with familiar places from the Harry Potter universe. There’s plenty to see, but some of the coolest parts are easy to miss if you don’t know what to look for.
The rides are the most popular attractions in the area. I won’t spoil them for you, but here’s what you need to know:
Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey
This ride is extremely popular, so it can have a lengthy wait. However, with both practical and digital effects, the experience itself really stands out. Make sure you wear shoes that can’t fall off your feet! You must be at least 48 inches tall to ride.
Don’t miss: the walkway to the entrance of the ride is littered with beautiful Harry Potter set pieces, from the Fat Lady’s portrait that guards Gryffindor Tower to the humpback witch statue Potter and his friends use to sneak into Hogsmeade.
Flight of the Hippogriff
This ride is intended for younger guests. You must be at least 39 inches tall to ride, and children must be accompanied by an adult.
Food and Dining
The stalls located on either end of the area sell a variety of non-themed drinks, as well as favorites from the books like butterbeer and pumpkin juice.
Don’t miss: on hot days, try the frozen butterbeer!
The Three Broomsticks
This is a full restaurant and tavern with loads of Harry Potter themed meals, drinks, and desserts.
Don’t miss: the Great Feast Platter looks and tastes amazing!
To get into the Ollivanders shop, you’ll first have to wait in line and watch a wand fitting performance by an actor. The store carries replicas of wands from every major character and many minor characters, as well as generic wands labeled with the magical materials they were made from.
Don’t miss: huge display tomes in the store describe the properties of each wand material.
The general Harry Potter merchandise is located at the entrance/exit to the Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey ride. There’s all the usual fare: t-shirts, mugs, scarves, socks, figurines, plush toys, notebooks, and more.
Costume Shop and Owlry
This shop carries a variety of robes, dresses, and accessories (such as headbands and hair ornaments) reminiscent of the Wizarding World. There’s also movie replicas, like Neville’s Remembrall and quaffles from quidditch.
Don’t miss: the Hedwig toys in this shop can turn their heads!
Zonko’s and Honeydukes
These two shops are connected inside and carry tons of familiar candy and jokes.
Don’t miss: the chocolate frogs sold here include a wizard card.
This stall near the far end of the area carries custom name pins and badges themed after the books.
Don’t miss: the Head Boy and Girl pins and the time turner replica look particularly good!
